Draggin' Nationals...presented by DropJaw Magazine, The Rock &
National Draggers Association (NDA)
When we were asked about doing a second show at The Rock a
couple years ago, we decided to try the "truck" show that we
had always talked about. Last year it seemed as though there
was a great foundation laid out with the new acrylic trophy
addition to the DropJaw awards lineup, the cool list of
different classes to better fit the style of show and of
course adding a huge $1000 draggin' contest to the roster. The
creation of the drift drag event set standards as well as the
best of awards that were offered. So of course going into this
year we figured that the show would grow a little more than
last year and some new ideas would pop up for our 3rd annual
Draggin' Nationals. The show was as great if not better than
last year's show, with the addition of Sikness Video's Beer
Olympics, the Beer Pong Challenge and replacing a Saturday
night stage show with Poker Night....all of which went over
really well. There was just a lack of vehicle presence that we
anticipated because of the hype of this event. Hell, we even
brought in Drop'em Wears NDA (National Draggers Association)
to judge the draggin' contest to give it more clout. Honestly,
this year we felt like a fish out of water because we couldn't
pinpoint why this show didn't rise as all our other events
have. By the end of the weekend though, we had figured it out.
DropJaw does events that are very much open to any and
everyone who want to come out and take part in it. People were
confused with the flyer thinking it either was totally about
trucks or thinking if they didn't drag that they couldn't
come. Well, we are big enough here at DropJaw to admit when we
have stepped into something that just isn't us. As much as we
wanted to have a successful "truck" event...we didn't. What
this show did though, is open the door for an idea that has
been lingering for awhile now. Steve at Rockingham sees
something in us because he keeps wanting to try new ideas for
shows and events because there is room at The Rock for more
than just The Big Show. We already have next year's show being
constructed and designed to take the place of Draggin' Nats
weekend. This show will be for any and everyone who has ever
loved coming to shows and just hangin' out and being able to
spend time with friends while drinking or listening to music
or both. This show will offer any and everything or nothing at
all. What I mean is that there will be a showoff, a draggin'
contest, a burnout contest, a stereo contest and many many
other weekend event but it will be perfectly fine if you just
want to come and hangout and party all weekend. DropJaw has
ALWAYS offered a care free environment to come and chill in.
There will be a small vehicle fee to get any motorized ride
through the gate, but there will be NO charge for people.
Thats right, you can pile 10 people in a car and get charged
one small price. Seeing as how The Rock has numerous shower
facilities we are pushing this show as a major camping event.
We want everyone to be there the whole weekend to experience
it all. The event is called AutoStock at the Rock...being
inspired by the most famous gathering of all times...WoodStock.
There is also some inspiration from the recently visited 37th
National Truck-In where EVERY ONE of the vanners camp on site.
There will be bands scheduled all weekend and we are gonna try
to set everything up all together in a big square so there
will be a party central where all the games, events and hangin'
out happens. The stage, vendors and all will be all together.
We have just started planning this so be looking out real soon
for an announcement and major editions throughout the year.
You WILL NOT want to miss this one because we are pulling out
all the stops....last time we did that Freak Show was created.
To everyone who attended Draggin' Nationals, thanx for making
it as great as it was....we will miss it. See ya at the shows.
