Summer Showdown presented by Freaks of Nature

For 5 years now, Freaks of Nature have been holding their annual Summer Showdown and the show has done nothing but get better and better over the years. Last year they even had to overcome a hurricane that swept through the show on Saturday. Luckily Sunday proved to be a great weather day and show went on. This year the weather was perfect and really gave the show a chance to go on as planned without any hickups. The Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, GA has been the location for the past couple years and I have to say that this place is huge. It also has made for some great backdrops, as the show area has a few small ponds right there on grounds. Not only were they used for backdrops but some people came with their fishing poles and swimming trunks. This was only our second year attending the show so it was nice to see it bad weather free and at it's top potential. The Freaks always do a great job of putting this show on and creating a cool and different atmosphere for the showers that come from all over the state and from all states around. I have known Jason (head of Freaks East Coast) and alot of the members, including a few DropJaw Cutie Freaks in there, for awhile now and you couldn't ask for a better group of people to host an event. These guys are the down to earth, talk to anyone type group and it shows because a lot of the people that came out to show seem to have a close connection to the club. The show did the right thing and offered plenty of events to keep the crowd busy throughout the weekend. Of course who misses the infamous Freaky bikini contest and the numerous club games that go on but the one attraction that seems to get the crowd out of their clothes is the slip and slide event. This is something you dont see too often so it is a pretty big hit. Something that I have never seen is the nighttime schedule that they had planned for everyone. Seeing as how there always seems to be a hotel party at shows that dont have a campground, the Freaks decided to embrace this and create a night event around it. So right beside the host hotel, the club set up a huge big screen and invited everyone out to watch Sikness Video's newest dvd, Mean Muggin'. To kick the video off, Ground Level wanted to drag by the hotel on the highway and give the show a little spark. So to capture the action, a few of us went out to the highway overpass and set up. The crew drug from one exit to another...it was pretty sik until we realized that the side of the highway had little fires all the way down where they first started draggin'. It reminded me of when our trailer was throwing out hot brake pad pieces and doing the same thing all the way down the road.  Needless to say, everyone ran out and took care of the fires before they got out of control. The movie started right after that and the parking lot was full of people from the show. It seemed like just about everyone was there, sitting in lawn chairs and hanging out all together. This was a great idea and actually kept everyone all together at night and made the show seem that much longer. Gotta give props for this idea....it's things like this that keep our scene striving to be better than before. Mad props to Freak of Nature and all the rides that came out to represent. Thanx for keeping Georgia on the show scene map. See ya next time.
