20th Annual Texas
Heatwave
It has been like 5 or 6 years since DropJaw has been out to
the Texas Heatwave. The last time I came out, I drove my
Sentra from NC 22 hours to cover this show. Actually I took
what I thought was a short cut on the way and it took 26
hours. Needless to say I took the mapquest directions on the
way back. Through the years one thing after another has kept
us away but we were finally able to work it out this year and
get back down to the dirty south. This is a scene within the
scene down here in Texas. For one, the state is so big that
you dont have to ever leave to hit up shows all year. The fact
that you can drive 8 hours and still be in Texas is amazing.
Another thing is the scene is so big that you never run out of
hot rides to check out. This is great for us because 80% of
the rides that we took pics of are stuff that you havent ever
seen on DropJaw. We always love fresh material. This show is
in it's 20th year and is one of the most recognized events in
the Nation. And it is called Texas Heatwave for a
reason...because it is hot as hell out there almost every
year. The show also offers about any and everything you can
imagine coming from a huge event. For one, every style of ride
is represented out there, including monster trucks which also
put on demonstrations for the crowd. There is a huge burnout
contest, stereo contest and major stage show throughout the
day. This year they brought in Ice Cube for a nighttime
concert that kept the party going on throughout the night. If
you happened to get through the hundreds and hundreds of rides
on display, then there was plenty of vendors out showing off
and selling the scene's hottest products available. For the
adventurers there was a helicopter on grounds giving people
rides over and around the show grounds. One of the craziest
things I think we saw out there was the fact that 70% of the
rides were brought out to the show on Friday and left for the
rest of the weekend. Through our experiences people usually
come to the 3 day shows but always take their rides with them
when they left each day. It was pretty cool to see the trust
that this show has with their participants. The Heatwave crew
did a great job of putting this show together as they always
do and we were very happy to be able to be a part of it again
this year. I also finally got a chance to meet some of the
crew from StreetSeen.com who in fact are the prominent
magazine force in Texas. If you get a chance, check these guys
out and get one of their magazines....pretty sik. I want to
give mad thanx to all the people from Texas who gave us some
hot rides and scenery to point our cameras at and to the
Heatwave crew for letting us come out and represent DropJaw
once again at this show. See you guys next year at Texas
Heatwave.
